Help paying for Starlink · checked 23 October 2026 Only Wales has a grant you can realistically put towards Starlink kit Wales Up to £800 Access Broadband Cymru can pay towards a satellite dish, router and installer if you can't get 30 Mbps. Apply and accept before you order. Scotland Up to £5,000 The voucher works through registered suppliers, not Starlink's own plans, and closes to new applications on 20 November 2026. England £0 No national grant for Starlink. The Gigabit voucher was for gigabit connections and closed to new projects on 31 August 2026. Northern Ireland £0 We found no satellite grant. Public money is going into fibre through Project Gigabit. Can I get a grant for Starlink? In Wales, possibly: the Access Broadband Cymru grant pays up to £800 towards satellite kit and installation if you can't get 30 Mbps, as long as you apply and accept the offer before you order. Scotland's voucher, worth up to £5,000, works through registered suppliers rather than Starlink's own plans and closes to new applications on 20 November 2026. England and Northern Ireland have no satellite grant, and no scheme anywhere pays the monthly bill. NOVEMBER 20 2026 In Scotland? The voucher closes to new applications on 20 November 2026. Requests submitted before then will still be considered, and approved applications are unaffected. If you want satellite through the scheme, speak to a registered supplier now. Key facts, checked 23 October 2026 Who this is for: Anyone in the UK thinking about Starlink who wants to know if there's help with the cost, especially rural homes, farms and holiday lets in Wales and Scotland. Read this before you order. Not one aimed at Starlink, but Wales has a broadband grant that can pay towards satellite kit. Scotland's voucher works through registered suppliers until 20 November 2026, and England and Northern Ireland have no satellite grant. Every scheme pays towards getting connected, not the monthly bill. And in each case the rules matter more than the headline number: who applies, which supplier you use, and when you're allowed to order. We've set out each nation below, in plain steps, with the official source for every detail. Possibly, and it's the best help on offer anywhere in the UK. The Welsh Government's grant pays up to £800 towards any broadband set-up that can reach at least 30 Mbps, and it lists a satellite dish as eligible equipment. Wales · Access Broadband Cymru Up to £800: £550 for kit and £250 for the installer Drawn to scale: £550 is 69% of the £800 maximum and £250 is 31%. Equipment (up to £550) Installation (up to £250) Not covered To qualify, your property has to be in Wales, have a unique property reference number (UPRN), and be unable to get at least 30 Mbps download from any provider. It also can't have had public broadband funding before, or an Access Broadband Cymru grant in the past 48 months. The guidance is technology neutral: in its own words, "Any technology is eligible however the installation MUST be capable of achieving download speeds of at least 30mbps." Starlink's slowest home plan is sold as a 100 Mbps service, and you'll need a speed test with your claim to show what you're getting. Three details are worth knowing before you plan around the grant. The £250 installation part covers an installer's fees or a site survey, so if you fit the dish yourself, there's no installer cost to claim against it, on our reading of the guidance. The kit must stay at the property you applied for, so a set-up you plan to take away on trips won't fit the rules. And the guidance doesn't mention Starlink by name, so if you plan to buy a kit online direct from Starlink, email broadband@gov.wales first and ask whether that order would be accepted. Apply first and order later. The Welsh Government says you must not instruct a provider or install any equipment until you've accepted your offer, and it rejects all retrospective applications. Wales · how to get the grant without losing it Order nothing until you've accepted your offer Apply yourself The premises owner applies. If you don't own it, get the owner's permission first. A provider can't apply for you. Wait for your offer Applications are assessed within 20 working days. Don't order or install anything yet. Accept within 28 days Accept the offer within 28 calendar days, or it's withdrawn. Order and install Installation and your claim must happen within 3 months of accepting the offer. The kit must stay at the premises. Claim within 28 days Send a speed test and itemised invoices showing equipment and installation separately, no later than 28 days after installation. Get paid Claims are assessed within 15 working days. The money goes to you or, if they're set up on Welsh Government systems, your provider. You can either pay your provider and claim the money back, or ask the Welsh Government to pay your provider directly, as long as the provider is set up on its systems before installation. Whichever you choose, your invoices must show equipment and installation separately, or the claim won't be paid. The guidance doesn't give a closing date, but the Welsh Government reserves the right to close or change the scheme, and the annual budget is £1,000,000. If you're planning to apply, it makes sense not to wait. Not for Starlink's own plans. The voucher, worth up to £5,000, is claimed by a registered supplier, Starlink isn't on the list, and you must take that supplier's broadband for at least a year. The scheme closes to new applications on 20 November 2026. Scotland · Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme Up to £5,000, through a registered supplier, until 20 November 2026 Check your address Use the Scottish Government's broadband address checker to see if you're eligible: under 30 Mbps, with no faster connection planned. Contact a registered supplier They must offer a faster service costing no more than £57.60 a month. You can choose to pay more. Sign with that supplier They'll supply your broadband for at least a year. Leave in year one and you might pay a fee and repay the voucher. Install within 12 months The Scottish Government approves the voucher and the supplier has up to 12 months to install. Where Starlink fits: Starlink isn't one of the registered suppliers, so the voucher can't be spent on Starlink's own monthly plans. Five registered suppliers list satellite; ask them exactly which service they'd provide. You might be eligible if your current broadband is slower than 30 Mbps and there are no plans for a faster connection through government programmes or commercial build. The voucher can cover installation, including satellite dishes and routers, and in most cases the whole installation cost, but never your monthly charges. Registered voucher suppliers that list satellite 5 of the 29 suppliers in the Scottish Government's table, checked 23 October 2026. Starlink isn't listed. A satellite tick on the list doesn't mean Starlink. One of the five, Voove, said in 2024 that Starlink "is not currently available under the Scottish broadband voucher scheme". So if you'd like satellite through the voucher, ask each supplier exactly which service they'd install and what it would cost each month, then compare that with ordering Starlink's own rolling monthly plans direct. No. The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme only ever paid for gigabit-capable connections and stopped taking new projects on 31 August 2026. A £8 million satellite grant announced in 2023 has never opened. Source: Building Digital UK The government says it is "monitoring and supporting" alternatives such as satellite for the hardest-to-reach premises, and Building Digital UK expects more satellite options to come to market in 2026 to 2027. For now, though, there's no household satellite grant in England. The only council scheme we found is Lincolnshire County Council's pilot, announced on 11 September 2026. The council will buy and fit Starlink kit on farms without fibre on its own County Farms estate, and the farmers then pay Starlink for the subscription. It isn't open to the public. Not for satellite, as far as we can find. Public money in Northern Ireland is going into full fibre instead, through a £34.6 million Project Gigabit contract with Fibrus for over 9,000 rural premises. That contract follows Project Stratum, which finished on 30 June 2025 and brought gigabit-capable broadband to 81,000 premises. If your home isn't covered by either, Starlink or 4G and 5G home broadband are the usual options, and we found no grant towards the cost. No. The USO gives you the right to request a decent connection from BT, or KCOM in Hull, but it doesn't buy you Starlink. In fact, if Starlink is available to you for £59.60 a month or less, a USO request may be turned down. The broadband Universal Service Obligation Your legal right to decent broadband, and why Starlink matters to it 10 Mbps download, with 1 Mbps upload, is what Ofcom counts as "decent" broadband £59.60 a month: if decent broadband only costs more than this, you can still request a USO connection £3,400 of build costs is covered. Above that, you pay the difference Where Starlink comes in: BT only has to provide a USO connection if no other option meets the criteria, and in July 2026 Ofcom told the trade site ISPreview that Starlink meets them. So if Starlink is available to you for £59.60 a month or less, a USO request may be turned down. Ofcom's own figures show how much cheaper satellite has changed things. In its spring 2026 update it said Starlink's cheaper plans mean many premises that can't get decent broadband from a fixed line or fixed wireless network "can now access affordable decent broadband". UK premises · Ofcom Connected Nations, spring 2026 Cheaper satellite plans cut the homes without affordable decent broadband to 4,000 Premises across the UK If you still think you qualify, our guide to your right to decent broadband explains how to make a request. If you claim Universal Credit, Pension Credit or certain other benefits, a social tariff costing £10 to £24 a month may be much cheaper, if one reaches your address. Social tariffs depend on which networks reach your home, so they won't help everywhere Starlink does. It's still worth checking first, and our social tariffs guide lists every one with who can apply.
