Are BT and Sky on the same network?

For most addresses, yes: both retail broadband over the national Openreach network, as do TalkTalk, Vodafone, EE and Plusnet. That is why speeds between those brands at the same address are usually near-identical, and why their head-to-heads are really contests of price, contract terms, customer service and router quality rather than of the wire itself.

Will switching between same-network brands change my speed?

Usually only marginally, because the line into your home is the same. What genuinely changes is what you pay across the whole contract, how the provider behaves when something breaks, the router in the box, and details like Wi-Fi standards. The exception is when you also change product tier or technology during the switch, full fibre instead of FTTC for example, which can transform speed entirely.

Why do Virgin Media comparisons depend on my street?
