Vodafone TV explained: what you get, what it costs, and do you need Vodafone broadband?

Vodafone TV is a new streamed TV service from Vodafone. A small box plugs into your TV and brings live channels with Freely, on-demand TV, games and apps together, with no dish or aerial.

It costs £10 a month, or £17 for Essential with Netflix and HBO Max included, on a 24-month plan. Mobile customers can also choose Ultimate at £25.50, which adds Disney+ Standard or Prime. Prices rise each 1 April.

You don't need Vodafone broadband. Vodafone TV comes with a Vodafone pay monthly mobile plan or a Vodafone broadband plan, and it isn't sold on its own.

What it means for you: four quick answersChecked 15 October 2026

Do I need Vodafone broadband?

No. A Vodafone pay monthly mobile plan, including SIM only, qualifies too.

Is Netflix included?

Yes, in Essential and Ultimate, as Netflix Standard with Ads, alongside HBO Max Standard with Ads.

What does it really cost?

£10, £17 or £25.50 a month now, rising £1.50 each 1 April, on top of your plan.

Can I leave easily?

TV can't be cancelled on its own, so it ends with your plan. The box is yours to keep.

Key facts, checked 15 October 2026

  • "Vodafone TV is not available on its own." It's sold with an eligible Vodafone Pay Monthly, Home Broadband or, where applicable, 5G Broadband plan (Vodafone TV terms, October 2026).
  • Vodafone TV costs £10 a month, Essential £17 and Ultimate £25.50, each on a 24-month plan. Ultimate is "only on mobile plans" (Vodafone TV page).
  • Essential and Ultimate include Netflix Standard with Ads and HBO Max Standard with Ads. Ultimate adds a choice of Disney+ Standard or Prime (Vodafone TV page).
  • TV prices rise £1.50 each 1 April: Essential goes to £18.50 in 2027 and £20 in 2028. A broadband plan with TV rises £5 a year in total, and a mobile plan with TV £4 (Vodafone TV page; Vodafone TV terms, clause 9.1).
  • You need a minimum download speed of 20Mbps and a valid TV licence where required by law (Vodafone TV terms, clause 3.4).
  • "The Vodafone TV Service cannot be cancelled separately." If you cancel your plan, TV and any included subscription end too (Vodafone TV terms, clause 19.2).
  • "You will own the Equipment once you receive it", and you don't need to return the box or remote unless Vodafone asks (Vodafone TV terms, clauses 7.2 and 19.6).
  • One Touch Switch "manages the transfer of a customer's broadband service. TV services may need to be cancelled separately, depending on provider" (Vodafone press release, 2 October 2026).

Who this is for: Anyone curious about Vodafone TV: Vodafone mobile and broadband customers, families who'd like Netflix and HBO Max in one place, homes without an aerial or dish, gamers without a console, anyone thinking of switching from Sky, Virgin Media or BT TV, and anyone helping a relative choose.

What is Vodafone TV?

Direct answer: A streamed TV service from Vodafone, launched in October 2026. A small box plugs into your TV and brings live channels with Freely, on-demand TV, games and apps together over your broadband, with no dish or aerial.

Vodafone's TV page describes "200+ live channels and on-demand TV", including Freely. Vodafone says Freely lets you "just plug in, connect to WiFi and start watching" channels from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and more. On top of that come 300+ cloud games, apps from the Google Play Store and a companion app for your phone. It's a different kind of service from a satellite or cable box, so our guide to broadband for streaming is a good companion read.

What do the three packages include, and what do they cost?

Direct answer: Vodafone TV is £10 a month, Essential £17 with Netflix and HBO Max included, and Ultimate £25.50 with Disney+ Standard or Prime added. Each is on a 24-month plan, and Ultimate is only on mobile plans.

The Netflix in Essential and Ultimate is Netflix Standard with Ads, which Vodafone lists at a retail price of £7.99, with Full HD on two devices at a time. HBO Max Standard with Ads also streams on two devices in Full HD. On the £10 package, Vodafone says Netflix and HBO Max are available through its Subscription+ service on a 30-day rolling basis, alongside services such as Disney+, DAZN and Spotify. These prices are for the TV part, on top of your Vodafone mobile or broadband plan.

Thinking of Vodafone broadband too? Vodafone's broadband and TV page shows Full Fibre with TV Essential from £41 a month on a 24-month plan. It also has an offer for new Pro broadband customers, with TV Essential included at no extra cost on Pro plans bought between 1 and 28 October 2026, from £39 a month. Existing Vodafone broadband customers are excluded from that offer.

How much will I pay over 24 months?

Direct answer: The TV part rises £1.50 a month each 1 April. By our sums, over 24 months starting now, Vodafone TV adds about £276, Essential about £444 and Ultimate about £648, on top of your plan.

Vodafone's TV terms say a broadband plan that includes Vodafone TV rises by £5 a month each 1 April, and a mobile plan with TV by £4. They add that "these total increases are £1.50 more than the annual increase" on the plan alone. There's one thing to watch: for Ultimate, the product page says £28.50 from 1 April 2028, while Vodafone's 2 October press release says £29.50. Your Contract Summary is the document that counts, so check it before you sign. Our guides to the Vodafone price rise and Ofcom's price rise rules explain how these rises work.

Who can get Vodafone TV, and do I need Vodafone broadband?

Direct answer: You need a Vodafone pay monthly mobile plan, including SIM only, or a Vodafone home broadband or 5G broadband plan. So you don't need Vodafone broadband, but Vodafone TV isn't sold on its own.

Vodafone's terms put it simply: "Vodafone TV is not available on its own." You buy it with an eligible Vodafone Pay Monthly, Home Broadband or, where applicable, 5G Broadband plan. The terms ask for "a suitable broadband, Wi-Fi or data connection" of at least 20Mbps, without saying it has to be Vodafone's. If you're taking TV with a mobile plan, it's worth confirming your set-up with Vodafone when you order. You can buy direct from Vodafone or in Currys stores, where Vodafone says Currys sells the broadband and TV bundle only.

If you already have Vodafone broadband, the terms say adding TV "will be treated as an upgrade" and won't usually mean an early exit fee, though you may need to agree a new minimum term. Vodafone says it will confirm the impact before you buy. On a mobile plan, the cleanest time to add TV is your upgrade window.

What broadband speed do I need?

Direct answer: Vodafone's terms ask for a minimum download speed of 20Mbps for Vodafone TV. Freely needs 10Mbps, and Netflix recommends 5Mbps for Full HD and 15Mbps for 4K.

Those figures are for one stream. If the kids are gaming while someone watches a film, you'll want more headroom. A quick check on UK Speed Test shows your speed today, and our broadband speed calculator helps you work out what your household needs. Vodafone's terms also say cloud gaming depends on your connection, and they don't guarantee gameplay without lag.

What's the box like, and can I record?

Direct answer: A small plug-in box with 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on selected content, and it's yours to keep. Vodafone TV is built around streaming and catch-up, with Freely's pause, restart and seven-day guide.

Vodafone's terms say "you will own the Equipment once you receive it", and that it will repair or replace a faulty box during the minimum term, unless the damage was caused by you or by misuse. The box terms ask you not to use it to copy or record content, so think of it as a streaming box with catch-up rather than a recorder. Freely's seven-day guide lets you catch up on last week's TV, and on-demand apps fill in the rest. You'll need a Google Account to download apps from the Google Play Store.

What about Netflix and HBO Max I already pay for?

Direct answer: You can link an existing Netflix account when you activate it through Vodafone TV. Until you link it, Netflix keeps charging you separately, so link it straight away.

Vodafone's terms say: "You will continue to be charged separately for any existing Netflix service account until you link that account to your Vodafone TV Service." If your Vodafone TV later ends, cancelling Netflix through Vodafone won't cancel your original account, and Netflix "will automatically resume charging" the payment method it holds for you. HBO Max needs its own account, for people aged 18 or over. If you upgrade an included subscription to a higher tier, Vodafone bills the extra separately, on a monthly rolling basis. And if you stop using an included subscription, the terms say "your package price will not reduce".

What happens if I want to change or leave?

Direct answer: Vodafone TV can't be cancelled on its own. If you cancel your broadband or mobile plan, TV and its included subscriptions end too. After 24 months, it carries on month to month, and you keep the box.

What happens when you want to change or leave
IfWhat happens
You change your mind earlyOrdered online or by phone? Consumer law usually gives you 14 days. You'd cancel the whole plan and return the kit, and you may pay for the service you've used.
You want to drop TV but keep your planNot on its own during the minimum term. You'd change or end the whole plan, which may mean an early exit fee. Mobile customers can avoid that in their upgrade window.
You stop watching Netflix or HBO MaxThe price stays the same. The included subscriptions can't be cancelled separately.
You cancel your broadband or mobile planVodafone TV and its included subscriptions end too. Any exit fee follows your plan's terms.
Your 24 months are upIt carries on month to month. The price may go up when any in-contract discount ends.
Vodafone makes a change you can leave overVodafone will tell you, and explain how to leave without an early exit fee.
What about the box?Keep it, unless Vodafone asks for it back.

The key line in Vodafone's terms is: "The Vodafone TV Service cannot be cancelled separately." During the minimum term, dropping TV means changing or ending the whole plan, which may mean an early exit fee. Any fee follows the terms of your broadband or mobile plan, so your Contract Summary shows the amount. Our guide to avoiding broadband exit fees explains how they're worked out.

Switching from Sky, Virgin Media or BT TV?

Direct answer: Check your current TV contract first. Vodafone says One Touch Switch moves your broadband, but TV services may need to be cancelled separately, depending on your provider.

This matters most where TV and broadband are bundled. Our guides to leaving Sky broadband but keeping Sky TV, EE TV becoming BT TV and what happens to your TV package when you switch walk you through each case. Vodafone's switching credit is up to £300 towards an early exit fee, for new customers on eligible plans bought direct from Vodafone, so read its terms before you rely on it.

What do people get wrong about Vodafone TV?

Direct answer: The big one: you don't need Vodafone broadband. A Vodafone pay monthly mobile plan qualifies too. And stopping Netflix or HBO Max doesn't lower the price.

What are my rights?

Direct answer: Read your Contract Summary before you sign. Ordered online or by phone, you can usually cancel within 14 days. If a complaint isn't sorted within 6 weeks, you can go to an ombudsman for free.

Vodafone's terms say that if it makes a change that gives you a right to leave, it will tell you and explain how to end the service without an early exit fee. If something goes wrong, start with Vodafone's complaints process, and keep a note of dates and what you were told. Our guides to mid-contract price rises and broadband complaints and the ombudsman take you through the next steps. And if anyone calls offering Vodafone TV out of the blue, our scams guide shows how to check it's real.

In summary

  • Vodafone TV brings live TV with Freely, on-demand, games and apps into one small box, with no dish or aerial.
  • It's £10, £17 or £25.50 a month on a 24-month plan, rising £1.50 each 1 April, on top of your Vodafone plan.
  • You need a Vodafone mobile or broadband plan, but not necessarily Vodafone broadband. Ultimate is for mobile customers only.
  • Vodafone asks for broadband of at least 20Mbps and a TV licence where needed.
  • TV can't be cancelled on its own, and stopping Netflix or HBO Max doesn't lower the price. The box is yours to keep.
  • Switching from another provider? Check your old TV contract, because One Touch Switch moves broadband, not always TV.

Alex's closing thought

It's good to see another way to get live TV, streaming and games without a dish, an aerial or a pile of remotes. For lots of households, Essential at £17 with Netflix and HBO Max could tidy up a few separate subscriptions. Before you sign, add up what you pay today, check your broadband speed, and read the Contract Summary for the yearly rises. And if you're switching from another provider, sort out your old TV contract first, so the only surprise is how much you like the new set-up.
