Kirkwall-based CloudNet builds wireless broadband for hard-to-reach places and says it was first in the UK to deliver TV White Space to rural areas.
About Cloudnet
From an office on Junction Road in Kirkwall, CloudNet runs as a wireless internet service provider. It says it specialises in building broadband networks into difficult, hard-to-reach places where traditional services fail to deliver, and it also offers internet phone calls (VoIP), CCTV, and wireless and fibre connections.
By its own account, CloudNet was the first in the UK to deliver TV White Space to remote and rural locations, and the first to put internet access on ferries this way. TV White Space uses spare radio frequencies between television channels to carry broadband over long distances.
CloudNet is part of the R100 voucher scheme, Scotland's programme to help homes and businesses get superfast broadband. The company behind it, Cloudnet IT Solutions Limited, has been registered in Orkney since 2011.
