About Drimnin Community Broadband
Run by its own community on a not-for-profit basis, Drimnin Community Broadband serves Drimnin, Achabeag and some neighbours across the Sound of Mull. The service went live in August 2018, reaching just under 50 properties, and has since expanded to more properties in Morvern. It is a community interest company with an asset lock, so any surplus is held for community benefit, and six volunteers sit on its board.
The company is a member of UKWISPA, the association for wireless internet providers, and thanks Scottish Sea Farms and its Heart of the Community Fund for financial, technical and logistical support. Its site also tells how, more than 100 years before it was formed, early wireless experiments from Morvern were thwarted by a cow.
