BT Group's separately run network business, building full fibre across the UK and selling only through providers such as BT, Sky and TalkTalk.
About Openreach
Openreach builds and maintains the network that BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone and other providers use, and it does not sell broadband to households itself. It was created in 2006, and today's company, Openreach Limited, was incorporated in 2017. It is owned by BT Group but independently governed, and it manages about 250 million km of fibre and copper.
Its full fibre network passed 23.4 million premises by 30 June 2026, with about 9.4 million connected, a take-up of about 40%. The target is 25 million by December 2026 and up to 30 million by 2030, and it says it is building to about 70,000 more premises a week. It is also piloting a faster form of full fibre that can reach 10Gbps, with EE the only provider selling it as of October 2026.
