EE TV is now BT TV: what changes for you, and what doesn't

From 15 October 2026, EE TV is called BT TV if you get your broadband from BT. Your package, monthly price, channels, recordings and TV box all stay the same. If you watch through your TV box, you don't need to do anything.

The one job is for app users. If you watch on the EE TV app, BT will guide you through moving to the new BT TV app, and your settings, purchases and rentals come with you.

Got EE Broadband rather than BT? BT's change is for BT Broadband customers, and EE was still selling EE TV on 14 October 2026.

What it means for you: four quick answersChecked 14 October 2026

Will I pay more?

Not because of the new name. BT says your monthly price stays the same.

Do I need a new box?

No. Keep using the one you have, and your recordings stay.

Do I need to do anything?

Not if you watch on the box. App users move to the BT TV app.

Why the blue light?

The light on your box changes from aqua to blue. That's the new branding.

Key facts, checked 14 October 2026

  • EE TV is renamed BT TV on 15 October 2026 for customers who have BT Broadband and EE TV (BT).
  • Your TV package, monthly price, channels and content, recordings, TV box and subscriptions such as Netflix, NOW and HBO Max stay the same (BT).
  • If you watch through your TV box, you don't need to do anything (BT).
  • EE TV app users move to the new BT TV app, and settings, devices, recordings scheduled through the app, purchases and rentals move automatically. Offline downloads need downloading again (BT).
  • The light on your TV box changes from aqua to blue, and the EE TV Store is renamed the BT TV Store (BT).
  • BT says all its TV packages need to be bundled with a broadband package (bt.com/tv/add).
  • BT's current yearly price rise for TV plans is £2 a month: on 31 March while you're in your minimum term, and on 1 March after it ends (BT).
  • BT charges £140 if a BT TV Box Pro isn't returned within 60 days of when you stopped using it, and refunds the charge if you return it within 2 years (BT).

Who this is for: Anyone with BT Broadband and EE TV, anyone who watches on the EE TV app, EE Broadband customers wondering whether this affects them, and anyone thinking about getting BT TV.

What changes when EE TV becomes BT TV?

Direct answer: The name and the look, plus a new app for app users. From 15 October 2026, your TV service is called BT TV. BT says your package, monthly price, channels, recordings, TV box and subscriptions all stay the same.

BT's own help page puts it simply: "Your TV service isn't changing." It explains the reason too: "We're bringing your broadband and TV services together under the BT brand to make things simpler." So if you have BT Broadband, your broadband and your TV now carry the same name. BT adds that the new look "won't affect how your TV service works."

Who does the change affect?

Direct answer: Customers who have BT Broadband and EE TV. BT's notice is for BT Broadband customers, and EE was still selling EE TV with its own broadband on 14 October 2026.

Not sure which you have? BT can tell you. If your broadband comes from EE, keep an eye on messages from EE, as we'll update this guide if anything is announced for EE customers.

What do I need to do?

Direct answer: If you watch through your TV box, nothing at all. If you use the EE TV app, open it from 15 October 2026, follow the on-screen instructions, and download and sign in to the new BT TV app.

BT asks you to keep the EE TV app installed until it confirms your move is complete, so don't delete it straight away. We'd suggest starting from the EE TV app itself and following its instructions, as that's the surest way to download the right app.

Why has the light on my TV box changed colour?

Direct answer: It's part of the rename. BT says the light on your TV box changes from aqua to blue. If your TV still shows EE branding, leave the box switched on and in standby mode overnight to get the update.

You'll also see BT branding instead of EE branding on your TV service, and the EE TV Store renamed the BT TV Store. BT says these changes won't affect how your TV service works.

Why is EE TV becoming BT TV?

Direct answer: BT says it wants to bring your broadband and TV together under the BT brand to make things simpler. Its announcement says BT TV completes BT's offer across broadband, TV and mobile.

EE TV launched in December 2023, as part of what EE called "New EE". On 1 October 2026, BT announced that BT TV would be available from 15 October. Luciano Oliveira, Managing Director Products, Consumer at BT, said: "Finding something great to watch shouldn't mean navigating a maze of apps, subscriptions and devices." BT says its TV Box Pro can record over 600 hours of TV, while the compact TV Box Edge makes it easy to get to on demand and catch-up shows.

Will my BT TV price go up?

Direct answer: Not because of the new name. BT says your monthly price stays the same. Your usual yearly rise still applies, and under BT's current terms, TV plans go up by £2 a month.

BT's rises come at set times: on 31 March each year while you're in your minimum term, and on 1 March each year once it ends. BT says that if you're still in your minimum term, "there is no change to the price increase you signed up for", so check your contract for your exact amounts. Our guides to the BT price rise and mid-contract price rises and your rights explain more. Paying for channels you don't watch? BT says you can switch package every 30 days, until the last 3 months of your contract.

How much does BT TV cost?

Direct answer: For new customers on 14 October 2026, BT TV packages ran from £15 a month for Entertainment to £88 for Full Works, with Sport at £5 a month for the first 3 months. All are on 24-month contracts with BT broadband, and each rises by £2 a month on 31 March 2027 and again on 31 March 2028.

Can I keep BT TV if I switch broadband?

Direct answer: No. BT says all its TV packages need to be bundled with a broadband package, so BT TV ends when your BT broadband does. Plenty of other TV works on any provider's broadband.

BT lends you its kit, so it needs to go back when you leave. BT emails you a QR code and a printable label, and returns through Royal Mail are free. You have 60 days from the date you stopped using the kit before BT charges, and if you send it back within 2 years, BT refunds the charge in full. BT says the charges don't apply to BT kit supplied before 13 December 2019, or EE kit supplied before April 2023. Our guide to router and box return charges covers other providers too.

BT charges if you don't send kit back within 60 days
EquipmentNon-return charge
BT TV Box Pro£140
BT TV 4K Recordable Box (G5)£115
BT TV Recordable Box (G4)£89
BT TV Box Edge£75
BT TV Box (Z4)£60
Smart Hub 3£85
Smart Hub 2£65
Complete Wi-Fi discs£50 per device

Switching itself is simple. Under One Touch Switch, you contact your new provider and it arranges the move of your broadband and landline. Ask BT what happens to your TV plan and whether any charges apply, so there are no surprises.

What TV works on any broadband?

Direct answer: Sky Stream and Sky Glass, NOW, Netflix and Freely all work on other providers' broadband. Sky recommends 25Mbps for Sky Stream, Freely needs 10Mbps and Netflix suggests 5Mbps for Full HD.

If you love Sky channels, NOW gives you them without a Sky box, and Sky Stream and Sky Glass stream Sky TV over any provider's broadband. Our guide to leaving Sky Broadband but keeping your Sky TV shows how that works. Freely gives you free live and on demand TV on a Freely TV or device. Our broadband speed calculator and RightSpeed help you check your new line has room for everyone at home, and UKSpeedTest shows what you're getting today.

What do people get wrong about the change?

Direct answer: The big ones: you don't need a new box, you won't lose your recordings, and your price doesn't change because of the new name. BT TV does still need BT broadband.

How do I spot a scam message about the change?

Direct answer: Be wary of anything urgent or threatening, anything that asks for bank details or passwords, and anything asking you to pay for a new box. BT says you don't need one.

It always pays to slow down with any message about your account. If a scammer has your bank details, call your bank straight away, as BT advises. Our guide to broadband and telecoms scams has more on staying safe.

Alex's closing thought

A name change on your TV can feel like a big deal, but this one is gentle. Your box, your recordings and your price all stay put, and for most people the only thing they'll notice is a blue light where the aqua one used to be. If you use the app, set aside five minutes to move across. And while you're thinking about your TV, it's a good moment to check when your broadband contract ends, so you know your options.
