Want to leave Sky Broadband but keep your Sky TV package? Here's what to do

Yes, you can leave Sky Broadband and keep your Sky TV. Sky's own help pages say that when you switch your broadband to another provider, "any other Sky services you have, like Sky TV or Sky Mobile, will stay active."

You don't even need to call Sky. Order from your new provider, and they tell Sky for you. Sky Q keeps working through its dish, and Sky Stream and Sky Glass work on any broadband of at least 25Mbps.

The one thing to check is your TV price. Sky charges new customers £3 a month more for Ultimate TV on its own than with Sky Broadband, so ask Sky in writing what you'll pay, then compare broadband at your postcode.

What it means for you: four quick answersChecked 13 October 2026

Will my Sky TV stop?

No. Sky says your TV stays active when you switch broadband. Only Sky Broadband & Talk end.

Do I need to call Sky?

Not to switch. Your new provider tells Sky. You may want to ask Sky about your TV price, though.

Will it cost me more?

Possibly a few pounds on your TV. A cheaper broadband deal can more than cover it. Use our break-even rule.

Not with Sky?

Virgin, BT, EE and TalkTalk TV need their own broadband. Freely, Freesat, NOW and apps work anywhere.

Key facts, checked 13 October 2026

  • Sky says that when you switch broadband to another provider, "any other Sky services you have, like Sky TV or Sky Mobile, will stay active."
  • Sky recommends at least 25Mbps for Sky Stream and Sky Glass, 30Mb/s for Ultra HD or Whole Home, and 5Mb/s more for each extra puck (Sky).
  • Sky Ultimate TV costs new customers £21 a month with Sky Broadband and £24 a month on its own (Sky, 13 October 2026).
  • EE TV becomes BT TV for BT Broadband customers on 15 October 2026, with the same package and price (BT).
  • Vodafone TV can be taken with a Vodafone pay monthly mobile plan and needs broadband of at least 20Mbps (Vodafone).
  • One Touch Switch has applied since 12 September 2024, and more than 1.6 million customers switched landline or broadband in its first year (Ofcom).
  • If a complaint isn't sorted, you can take it to free dispute resolution after six weeks, or sooner with a deadlock letter (Communications Ombudsman).

Who this is for: Sky customers who want cheaper or faster broadband from another provider but want to keep their Sky TV, and anyone with Virgin, BT, EE, TalkTalk or Vodafone TV wondering what happens to their TV if they switch broadband.

Can you leave Sky Broadband and keep Sky TV?

Direct answer: Yes. Sky's help pages say that when you switch broadband to another provider, any other Sky services you have, like Sky TV or Sky Mobile, "will stay active." Your new provider arranges the switch, and only Sky Broadband & Talk end.

Sky TV and Sky Broadband are sold as separate subscriptions with separate minimum terms, even when you took them together. Sky's own offer terms spell it out: "Separate 24-month minimum terms" for the TV, the broadband and Sky Talk. So leaving one doesn't end the other. Our wider guide to what happens to your TV package when you switch covers the general picture; this guide goes deeper on Sky, then covers every other major TV provider.

Will my TV keep working if I switch broadband?

Direct answer: It depends who your TV is with. Sky TV, Freely, Freesat, NOW and streaming apps keep working. Virgin Media, BT, EE and TalkTalk TV need that company's own broadband, and Vodafone TV can stay if you have a Vodafone mobile plan.

What does Sky say about leaving broadband but keeping TV?

Direct answer: Sky says to contact your new provider, who will tell Sky for you. Sky Broadband & Talk cancel automatically when your new service starts, you're billed up to that date, and your Sky TV stays active.

Sky says it includes confirmation that you're cancelling Sky Broadband & Talk, any charges for leaving early, how to return Sky equipment, and "information about any other Sky services you have with us, like TV or Mobile." Read it carefully: it's your first written record of what happens next. This is the One Touch Switch process Ofcom brought in, and our step-by-step guide walks through it.

Does Sky TV work with another provider's broadband?

Direct answer: Yes, all current Sky TV does. Sky Q gets live TV from the satellite dish and connects to other routers by Wi-Fi or cable. Sky Stream and Sky Glass stream everything over broadband, and Sky recommends at least 25Mbps from any provider.

Does your Sky TV work on another provider's broadband?
Your Sky TVHow it gets TVWorks on other broadband? What to check

Sky Glass and Sky Glass AirEverything over broadband, built into the TV.Yes. Sky says Glass Air is compatible with any broadband offering at least 25Mbps.Wi-Fi strength at the TV, and 30Mb/s if you watch in Ultra HD.

To connect Sky Q to your new router, Sky's steps are: press Home, go to Settings, then Setup, select Network, then Reset, and choose to connect to Wi-Fi from another broadband provider. If the box sits near the router, an Ethernet cable is even simpler. Then reconnect your Sky Q Mini boxes. Our free RouterMap tool helps you find the best spot for your new router, so the signal reaches the TV.

Sky Stream customers: check your puck

One thing to check if you have Sky Stream. Sky's terms for one of its TV and broadband offers say Stream pucks "are loaned to you at no cost and must be returned at the end of the broadband subscription." That wording may not apply to your plan, but if your puck came as part of a TV and broadband deal, ask Sky to confirm in writing that you keep it when your broadband ends.

How do I leave Sky Broadband and keep Sky TV?

Direct answer: Check your contract dates, ask Sky in writing what your TV will cost, compare broadband at your address, then order from your new provider. They tell Sky, your broadband switches over, and you reconnect your TV to the new Wi-Fi.

How to leave Sky Broadband and keep Sky TV: 8 steps

1

Check both contract end dates

Sky TV and Sky Broadband have separate minimum terms. Sky says you can check when your TV contract ends in Your products, and your contract in My Messages.

2

Work out which Sky TV you have

A dish and a Sky Q box means live TV comes by satellite. A Stream puck, Sky Glass or Glass Air means everything comes over broadband.

3

Ask Sky two questions, in writing

"What will my Sky TV cost after my broadband ends?" and, for Stream customers, "Do I keep my Stream puck?" Save the chat or email.

4

Compare broadband at your address

Check the price over the whole contract, and make sure the speed suits your TV: at least 25Mbps for Sky Stream or Glass.

5

Order with your new provider

Give them your Sky Broadband & Talk account number and your landline number, and ask to keep your number if you use it.

6

Read Sky's leaving message

Minutes after you order, Sky sends "Important information about leaving us", with any charges, kit to return and what happens to your other Sky services.

7

Reconnect your TV on switch day

Sky Q: Settings, Setup, Network, Reset, then connect to Wi-Fi from another provider. Stream or Glass: join your new Wi-Fi.

8

Tidy up

Keep your Direct Debit until the final bill, send back the Sky Hub when the packaging arrives, and sign in to your Sky email at least every six months.

Not sure where you are with your contracts? Sky's "Your products" page shows when your TV contract ends, and Sky says your contract details are in My Messages. If your broadband has finished its minimum term, you can switch with no exit fee. Our printable broadband switch checklist is handy to tick off as you go.

What happens on switch day?

Direct answer: Your new broadband goes live and Sky Broadband & Talk end automatically on the same day. Your Sky TV keeps running, and you reconnect your Sky Q, Stream or Glass to the new Wi-Fi.

Sky asks you not to cancel your Direct Debit or other payments until after your final bill, as payments are taken a month in advance. Any credit left on your account goes back to your bank 45 days after the service ends. If your switch hits a problem, our guide to what to do if One Touch Switch fails sets out your next steps.

Will my Sky TV price go up if I drop Sky Broadband?

Direct answer: It might. Sky's current prices show Ultimate TV at £21 a month for new customers who also take Sky Broadband, and £24 a month on its own. Sky doesn't publish what happens to existing customers, so ask in writing before you switch.

The chart shows how much the price of the same TV package depends on how you buy it. New customers pay £3 a month less for Ultimate TV when they also take Sky Broadband. Existing Sky TV customers starting a new 24-month term pay £30, and the standard price after any minimum term is £38. If you're out of contract on your TV too, it's worth asking Sky what it can offer: our guide on how to haggle with Sky has the words to use.

Will I actually save money?

Direct answer: Yes, if your new broadband costs less than your Sky Broadband minus any rise in your TV price. With Sky's current prices, a £20 Sky deal and a £3 TV rise give a break-even point of £17 a month.

If you pay Sky's standard price, your target is higher. Sky's terms give £25 a month as the current standard price for Sky Full Fibre 900 after its 24-month offer, so a household paying that would save with any deal under £22 a month, or under £25 if the TV price doesn't change. Compare the total over the whole contract, not just the first month: our cheap broadband guide explains how.

Will I have to pay a Sky exit fee?

Direct answer: Only if your Sky Broadband is still in its minimum term. Sky works out the charge from the days left, minus the costs it saves and a discount for being paid early. Once your minimum term ends, there's nothing to pay.

Sky explains its method like this: "We take the monthly charge for products you have, then deduct" the business costs it saves and "a discount for accelerated receipt", because you pay in one lump sum. If you have a discounted price, the charge is based on that lower price. For Sky Broadband and Talk, the final amount is rounded up to the nearest 25p, and Sky publishes a table of monthly rates on its help page.

The simplest way to avoid a fee is to time your switch for when your broadband contract ends, and Ofcom's rules say exit conditions mustn't act as a disincentive to switching. There are other legitimate ways out, which our guides to avoiding exit fees and leaving a contract early explain. Only just joined Sky Broadband? Sky gives UK customers a 31-day cooling off period, longer than the 14 days the law requires, counted from the latest of your router arriving, activation or receiving the terms. Our cooling off guide explains how it works.

What broadband speed do I need for Sky Stream, Sky Glass and other TV?

Direct answer: Sky recommends at least 25Mbps for Sky Stream and Sky Glass, and 30Mb/s for Ultra HD or Whole Home, plus 5Mb/s for each extra puck. Freely needs 10Mbps, Vodafone TV 20Mbps, and Netflix 5Mbps for Full HD.

These are minimums for the TV alone. If others in your home are on video calls, gaming or streaming at the same time, you need more. Our free RightSpeed calculator works out the speed your household needs, our broadband speed calculator does the same on this site, and you can check what you're getting where the TV sits with a phone or laptop on UKSpeedTest. Our guide to broadband for streaming covers live sport, which is the first thing to buffer on a weak connection.

Can I keep Virgin, BT, EE, TalkTalk or Vodafone TV if I switch broadband?

Direct answer: Not with Virgin Media, BT, EE or TalkTalk: their TV needs their own broadband. Vodafone TV can stay if you keep a Vodafone pay monthly mobile plan. Of the big pay TV providers, only Sky's TV works on anyone's broadband without another contract with the same company.

Virgin Media's own TV page tells people switching in that their "current provider will soon be in touch to explain how to switch TV package." BT's change for EE TV customers is in name only: BT says your TV package, monthly price, channels, recordings and TV box all stay the same from 15 October 2026, although the EE TV app won't be supported for BT TV customers after that date. If you have TalkTalk, the Competition and Markets Authority is reviewing BT's completed purchase of TalkTalk and must report to the Secretary of State by 19 October 2026; our explainer on what BT buying TalkTalk means for customers has the latest.

What if my TV can't stay?

Direct answer: You have good options that work on any broadband. Sky Stream starts at £15 a month for new Sky TV customers, Freely is free, Freesat needs no broadband for live TV, and NOW and streaming apps work anywhere.

Freesat says its latest boxes work with many UK satellite dishes, and that former Sky Q customers can repurpose their dish. If you're weighing up whether a bundle is still worth it, our guide to TV and broadband bundles and our broadband and TV deals page compare the routes.

What are my rights when I switch broadband?

Direct answer: Under Ofcom's rules you only contact your new provider, you don't pay notice charges after your switch date, and providers in Ofcom's automatic compensation scheme pay you if your new service starts late. If a complaint isn't sorted in six weeks, free dispute resolution is open to you.

The Communications Ombudsman asks you to "allow your provider 6 weeks to put things right (unless you receive a deadlock letter from them sooner)." Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalk and Vodafone use CISAS instead, and the Ombudsman's own pages point Sky customers there. Our guide to the broadband ombudsman explains how to escalate, and our compensation calculator works out what you could be owed. For price rise rules, see our guide to mid-contract price rises and your rights.

What about my landline number, email and router?

Direct answer: Ask your new provider to keep your landline number when you order. Sign in to your Sky email at least every six months. Send back the Sky Hub and any Sky Boosters or WiFi Pods when Sky's packaging arrives.

Sky Talk runs over your broadband connection, so it ends with Sky Broadband. Your landline number is also your Sky Service ID, which your new provider asks for when you switch. Our guide to Digital Voice and switching explains what happens to your landline.

For email, Sky says it may delete a Sky Yahoo Mail account that hasn't been used for more than six months, and that forwarding emails without signing in can make an account look inactive. As you're staying with Sky for TV, keep signing in. Our guide to keeping your email when you switch covers every provider.

For kit, Sky says to return the Sky Hub, plus any Sky Boosters or WiFi Pods, using the packaging and label it sends, and that you don't need to return an Openreach fibre box (ONT), master socket or cables tacked to the skirting board. Sky may charge a non-return fee for kit it doesn't get back, so keep proof of posting. You keep your Sky Q or Stream TV equipment, as your TV is staying. Our guide to router return charges covers the other providers.

I'm moving home at the same time. What changes?

Direct answer: Moving home works differently. Sky says that if you're switching to a new provider when you move, you contact your new provider and also contact Sky to cancel your Broadband & Talk yourself.

Sky Stream and Sky Glass move with you, as they only need broadband at the new address. Sky Q needs a satellite dish at the new home. If you can't have Sky at your new address, Sky says it may ask for supporting documents to decide whether early termination charges can be removed. Our guides to moving home broadband and the moving home switch checklist help you plan the dates.

What mistakes should I avoid?

Direct answer: Don't cancel with Sky first if you're switching, don't stop your Direct Debit early, and don't assume your TV price stays the same. Reconnect every Sky box on switch day, and keep your number and email.

Scammers know people are switching. You never need to call Sky to switch broadband, so treat any unexpected call about "cancelling your Sky" with suspicion and hang up. Our guide to broadband and telecoms scams shows what to look for, and our online safety guide helps you set up parental controls again on your new router.

Alex's closing thought

This guide started with a phone call. A customer wanted cheaper, faster broadband but was worried about losing the Sky TV the family loves. The good news is that you really can have both. Your TV stays, your new provider does the switching, and a few minutes of checking, especially on your TV price, means there are no surprises on your next bill.

In a sentence: In the UK you can leave Sky Broadband and keep Sky TV, because Sky says its TV stays active when your new provider switches your broadband under One Touch Switch, Sky Q keeps live TV through its dish and Sky Stream and Sky Glass work on any broadband of at least 25Mbps, although your Sky TV price may rise once the broadband bundle ends, so ask Sky in writing first.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep Sky TV if I leave Sky Broadband?

Yes. Sky says that when you switch broadband to another provider, "any other Sky services you have, like Sky TV or Sky Mobile, will stay active." Sky TV and Sky Broadband have separate contracts, so ask Sky whether your TV price changes.

Does One Touch Switch cancel my Sky TV?

No. One Touch Switch moves broadband and landline services. Your new provider tells Sky to end Sky Broadband & Talk, and Sky's help pages say your Sky TV stays active.

Do I have to tell Sky I'm leaving Sky Broadband?

Not usually. Sky says to contact your new provider, who lets Sky know. You do need to contact Sky yourself if you're moving home, or if your new provider can't switch you.

How much notice does Sky Broadband need?

None when you switch: Sky Broadband & Talk end automatically when your new service starts, and Ofcom's rules stop notice charges after the switch date. If you cancel yourself, Sky asks for 14 days' notice.

Will my Sky TV price go up if I drop Sky Broadband?

It might. Sky's current prices show Ultimate TV at £21 a month for new customers who also take Sky Broadband, and £24 a month on its own. Ask Sky in writing what you'll pay before you switch.

Does Sky Stream work with other broadband?

Yes. Sky says all Sky Glass and Sky Stream content is streamed via broadband, with a minimum speed of 25Mbps recommended. Allow 30Mb/s for Ultra HD or Whole Home, plus 5Mb/s for each extra puck.

Does Sky Q need Sky Broadband?

No. Sky Q gets live TV from the satellite dish and connects to other providers' routers by Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable. Without any broadband, you lose most on demand content and apps.

Will I have to pay a Sky exit fee?

Only if your broadband is still in its minimum term. Sky works out the charge from the time left, minus the costs it saves and a discount for being paid early. Out of contract, there's no fee.

Do I need to send my Sky router back?

Usually, yes. Sky asks for the Sky Hub and any Sky Boosters or WiFi Pods back, and sends packaging. You keep your Sky TV kit, and you don't return an Openreach fibre box.

Can I keep Virgin TV, BT TV or TalkTalk TV if I switch broadband?

No. Virgin Media says its Stream box and Flex need Virgin Media broadband, BT says all its TV packages need to be bundled with broadband, and TalkTalk sells TV as an add-on to its broadband.

Can I keep my landline number and Sky email?

Yes. Ask your new provider to keep your number when you order. For your Sky email, Sky says to sign in at least once every six months, or an inactive account may be deleted.

What if my switch goes wrong?

Complain to the provider first. If it isn't sorted after six weeks, or you get a deadlock letter, use free dispute resolution: CISAS for Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalk and Vodafone, or the Communications Ombudsman for BT and EE.
