About GreenNet
GreenNet was set up in 1985 as a cheap and effective way for environmental activists to communicate, long before the web. It describes itself as a not-for-profit ethical collective with no hierarchy, where staff share equal decision-making powers and hold no shares in the business.
Today it offers broadband, email, web hosting, domains, server hosting and cloud storage, aimed at activist groups and individuals working for social change. In 1994 it set up the GreenNet Educational Trust, a registered charity that can spend profits from GreenNet's work on promoting the use of technology, and it is a founding member of the Association for Progressive Communications, a global network of groups using technology for peace, human rights and the environment.
Its company is Green Net Limited, registered in 1986 at Oxford House in Bethnal Green, London, the same address GreenNet's website gives, and Companies House lists it as active.
