About Borders Online
Borders Online describes itself as community broadband for the Scottish Borders. It has built its own network of radio masts across the hills and surrounding communities to reach rural properties that, it says, the major providers do not currently serve. The wireless service needs a line of sight to one of its masts and is advertised at 30Mbps.
Where Openreach has started to lay full fibre to the door, Borders Online now sells a fibre service too, with high speeds and unlimited usage. Its tariff pages also list business fibre and internet phone (VoIP) packages.
The company is registered at Stobo, near Peebles, and Companies House lists it as active, incorporated in 2013. If you live in the northern Borders or nearby South Lanarkshire, the first thing to check is whether one of its masts can see your home.
