Grab a broadband deal now, or wait for Black Friday?

If you're out of contract, sign up now rather than waiting for Black Friday. Several of the big providers' prices today already match or beat their own Black Friday 2025 offers, and every month out of contract costs £7 to £9 more on average.

Sky and Virgin Media say their current prices end on 14 October, and Plusnet's and EE's reward cards on 8 October. Offers are usually replaced when they end, so treat those dates as a nudge, not a cliff edge. Black Friday is on 27 November, and no 2026 offers have been announced yet.

Waiting can pay off if your contract ends in December or January, or if you're set on Virgin Media or Plusnet, whose Black Friday 2025 deals added free months or bigger reward cards. Whenever you decide, the process is the same few minutes: compare what reaches your postcode, cheapest first, and let your new provider handle the switch.

What it means for you: four quick answersChecked 3 October 2026

Should I wait for Black Friday?

Not if you're out of contract. Today's prices from several big names already match or beat Black Friday 2025.

Do the offers really end next week?

Sky and Virgin Media say 14 October, Plusnet and EE's reward cards 8 October. Offers are usually replaced, so the date is a nudge.

Still in contract: can I switch?

Yes. Sky, BT, EE and Vodafone will credit some or all of your exit fee back.

Is Black Friday cheaper?

Sometimes, mostly through free months and bigger reward cards rather than lower monthly prices.

Key facts, checked 3 October 2026

  • Sky's website says its new-customer broadband prices are available until 14 October 2026 (Sky).
  • Virgin Media's lowest prices on selected bundles are due to end on 14 October 2026, not 8 October as some comparison sites list (Virgin Media).
  • Offer end dates are rarely a cliff edge: providers usually replace an offer when it ends, and the new price can be the same, better or worse (our experience).
  • Plusnet's reward cards, worth up to £100, are due to end on 8 October 2026; EE's student page gives the same date for its reward cards (Plusnet; EE).
  • BT's own deals page showed no end date on 3 October 2026 (BT).
  • EE's Full Fibre 900 costs £33.99 a month today; EE called £36.99 its lowest ever price for that plan at Black Friday 2025 (EE).
  • Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November, and EE says its Black Friday details will be available mid-November (EE).
  • Ofcom found that in-contract broadband customers spend £7 to £9 a month less on average than out-of-contract customers, and 28% are out of contract (Ofcom, February 2026).
  • Since 17 January 2025, mid-contract price rises in new contracts must be set out in pounds and pence (Ofcom).
  • Sky, BT, EE and Vodafone each offer credit towards exit fees for switchers still in contract, from up to £200 to up to £300 (provider websites).
  • Social tariffs for people on certain benefits cost from about £12 to £24 a month, and Black Friday doesn't change them (Ofcom).

Who this is for: Families, renters, students, couples and anyone living alone who is out of contract, nearly out of contract, or wondering whether to hold out for Black Friday. If that is you, this takes ten minutes and can save you real money.

When do today's broadband offers end?

Direct answer: Sky and Virgin Media say their current prices end on Wednesday 14 October, and Plusnet and EE say their reward cards end on Thursday 8 October. Offers are usually replaced when they end, so these dates are a nudge rather than a cliff edge.

EveryoneWhat happens nextOn or after the dateUsually a new offer; the price may be the same, better or worse

We checked every date on the provider's own website, because comparison sites don't always agree. Some list Virgin Media's offer as ending on 8 October, but Virgin Media's own site says 14 October. BT, Vodafone and TalkTalk showed no end date at all. When an offer ends, it's usually replaced by another, which might be better, the same or worse; nobody outside the provider knows which. That's why the real question isn't the date, it's whether today's price is a good one.

Should you wait for Black Friday?

Direct answer: If you're out of contract, no. Several big providers are already at or below their own Black Friday 2025 prices, and every month out of contract costs £7 to £9 more on average. Waiting makes sense if your contract ends in December or January, or if you're set on Virgin Media or Plusnet.

Is Black Friday broadband actually cheaper?

Direct answer: Not across the board. At Black Friday 2025, EE called £36.99 its "lowest ever price" for 900Mbps; today the same plan is £33.99. The big Black Friday wins last year were Virgin Media's three free months and Plusnet's bigger reward cards.

ProviderBlack Friday 2025TodayVerdict
Virgin MediaFirst three months free, then £24.99 for 264Mbps, rising each AprilFrom £23.99 for M125, offer due to end 14 OctoberBlack Friday 2025 was cheaper over the contract

EE and BT900Mbps at £36.99900Mbps at £33.99 (EE) and £35.99 (BT)Today is cheaper

The lesson from last year is that Black Friday is mostly about extras: free months, reward cards and the odd discount of a pound or so. Those can be worth having, but they're not guaranteed to come back, and they rarely beat a good price you can lock in today if you're already paying more than you should.

What does waiting cost?

Direct answer: On Ofcom's average gap of £7 to £9 a month, waiting eight weeks until Black Friday costs an out-of-contract household about £13 to £17, and about £16 to £21 once you allow time for the new line to go live.

That's the average. If you're on a big provider's full standard price, the gap between your bill and a new-customer deal can be several times bigger, so look at your latest bill before you decide. Our guide to out-of-contract broadband prices explains what providers charge once a deal ends.

What do today's deals really cost?

Direct answer: Over a 24-month contract, including the fixed April rises, today's cheapest full fibre from the big providers we could fully price starts at about £660 with Vodafone, and 900Mbps plans run from about £852 to £960.

Sky, Virgin Media and Plusnet aren't in the totals because their sites show prices only after a postcode check, or don't state the rise in pounds and pence, and we won't guess. Smaller providers can be cheaper still. Our verified deals page covers many more, and the postcode comparison shows exactly what reaches your address.

Still in contract: can I switch now?

Direct answer: Yes. Your current provider can charge an exit fee, but Sky, BT, EE and Vodafone will credit up to £200 or £300 of it back if you switch to them. You pay the old bill first and claim afterwards, within a time limit.

Exit-fee credit if you're still in contract

SkyUp to £200 (broadband, calls and line)Sky account credit, capped at what you were chargedSend proof of payment within 90 days

VodafoneUp to £300Vodafone account creditClaim within 90 days of Vodafone contacting you
Virgin MediaCheck when you orderAccount bill creditIts current terms weren't clear on 3 October

Do the sum before you order. If you've £150 left to pay on your old contract and the new provider credits up to £200, switching costs you nothing extra. If you've £400 left, it won't fully cover it. Our guide to avoiding broadband exit fees shows how to work out what you owe.

How do you spot a really good deal?

Direct answer: Look at the total cost over the whole contract, including the April price rises and any upfront fee, and only count a reward card if you'll definitely claim it. Then check you're not paying for more speed than you need.

Since January 2025, any price rise in a new contract has to be set out in pounds and pence before you sign, so the information is there. Our explainer on Ofcom price rise rules covers what changed.

Can I cancel if a better Black Friday deal appears?

Direct answer: Only within 14 days of signing, for a contract made online or by phone. If you order this week, that window closes in October, weeks before the big Black Friday launches, so don't count on it.

The cooling-off period is there to protect you, not to let you shop around twice. If you cancel within it, you may have to pay for any service you've already used, and you can lose any switching credit. If you're torn, the cleaner choice is to order now if you're out of contract, or wait until mid-November if you're not.

What's the best move for my household?

Direct answer: It depends who's under your roof. Families should look at 500Mbps plans, renters at contract length, students at this week's reward cards, and anyone on Universal Credit or Pension Credit at social tariffs, which beat most deals.

If someone in your family is on certain benefits, a social tariff is usually the best deal of all, from about £12 to £24 a month, and Black Friday doesn't change it. Our social tariffs guide shows who qualifies. TalkTalk customers wondering about the sale can read our TalkTalk guide before deciding.

Whenever you decide, how easy is it to switch?

Direct answer: Very. Whether you choose today, at Black Friday or when your contract ends, it's the same few minutes: enter your postcode, pick the deal with the best total cost, and order. Your new provider arranges the switch with your old one.

That's the point of comparing: you don't have to guess the perfect day. Whenever you're ready, our postcode comparison shows every deal we can find for your address that day, cheapest first, so you can see straight away whether today's price beats what you're paying, or what you saw last month.

What should I do this week?

Direct answer: Check your contract end date, work out the speed you need, and compare at your postcode. If today's price works and you're out of contract, order it; if you're waiting, set a reminder for mid-November.

In summary

  • Sky and Virgin Media say their current prices end on 14 October, and Plusnet and EE's reward cards on 8 October, though offers are usually replaced.
  • EE's 900Mbps plan is £33.99 today, cheaper than its own £36.99 Black Friday 2025 price.
  • Out-of-contract customers pay £7 to £9 a month more on average, so waiting costs money.
  • Black Friday 2025 was better for Virgin Media (three months free) and Plusnet (bigger reward cards).
  • Still in contract? Sky, BT, EE and Vodafone will credit back up to £200 or £300 of exit fees.
  • Whenever you decide, compare the total contract cost at your postcode; your new provider handles the switch.

Adrian's closing thought

Every year people tell me they're holding out for Black Friday, and every year some of them pay three months of out-of-contract prices to save a few pounds. If your contract has ended, the maths usually says switch now. If it ends at Christmas, wait, set a reminder and pounce. Either way, spend ten minutes comparing at your postcode, because the best deal for your street is rarely the one on the telly.

In a sentence: On 3 October 2026, EE's 900Mbps broadband plan cost £33.99, below the £36.99 EE called its lowest ever price at Black Friday 2025, and Ofcom found out-of-contract customers spend £7 to £9 a month more on average, so for most out-of-contract households waiting for Black Friday costs more than it saves.

Frequently asked questions

Should I wait for Black Friday to buy broadband?

Usually not if you're out of contract. Ofcom found in-contract customers spend £7 to £9 a month less on average, and EE's and BT's prices today already match or beat their Black Friday 2025 offers. Waiting can pay if your contract ends in December or January, or if you want Virgin Media or Plusnet.

When do Black Friday broadband deals start in 2026?

None have been announced yet. EE says its details will be available mid-November. In 2025 Virgin Media launched in the week of 6 November, Plusnet on 26 November and Vodafone on 28 November. Black Friday is 27 November 2026 and Cyber Monday is 30 November.

Are Black Friday broadband deals actually cheaper?

Sometimes. EE's 900Mbps plan was £36.99 at Black Friday 2025 and is £33.99 today. Plusnet's monthly prices barely moved last year, but its reward cards rose to up to £180, and Virgin Media gave three months free.

When does Sky's current broadband offer end?

Sky's website says its new-customer prices are available until 14 October 2026, for tiers from Superfast to Full Fibre Gigafast, and its Full Fibre 2.5 Gigafast+ price until 4 November. Offers are usually replaced when they end, and the new price can be the same, better or worse.

When do Virgin Media, BT and EE's current offers end?

Virgin Media says its lowest prices on selected bundles end on 14 October 2026, and EE's student page says its reward cards end on 8 October. BT's deals page showed no end date on 3 October 2026. New offers usually follow, so compare again on the day you decide.

Can I switch broadband if I'm still in contract?

Yes. Your old provider can charge an early exit fee, but Sky, BT, EE and Vodafone will credit some or all of it back if you switch to them.

Who pays my exit fees if I switch?

You pay your old provider first, then claim credit from the new one: Sky up to £200, BT up to £300 as bill credit, EE up to £200 or £300 with TV, and Vodafone up to £300. Each has a time limit, often 90 days.

How much more do out-of-contract customers pay?

On average £7 to £9 a month more than in-contract customers, according to Ofcom's February 2026 research. If you're on a provider's full standard price, the gap can be much bigger.

Can I cancel a broadband contract within 14 days if I find a better deal?

Yes, for contracts made online or by phone you have a 14-day cooling-off period. You may have to pay for any service you've used, and you may lose any switching credit.

How do I work out the total cost of a broadband deal?

Multiply each monthly price by the months you'll pay it, including the fixed April rises, then add any upfront fee. BT Full Fibre 300 starting this month comes to about £839.76 over 24 months, by our arithmetic.

Do broadband prices go up mid-contract?

Usually. BT, EE, TalkTalk and Plusnet add £4 a month each spring, and Vodafone adds £3.50. Since January 2025, rises in new contracts must be shown in pounds and pence before you sign.

What's the cheapest full fibre from the big providers right now?

On 3 October 2026, Virgin Media started from £23.99 on its own network, Vodafone from £24 and TalkTalk Full Fibre 150 at £25. Smaller providers can be cheaper, and prices depend on your address, so compare at your postcode.
