A broadband comparison site is a free online service that lists broadband deals from multiple providers and earns a commission from the provider you choose. The short answer. There are more than a dozen broadband comparison sites serving UK consumers, but only four of the 14 sites in this directory are currently accredited by Ofcom for home broadband: Broadbandchoices, MoneySuperMarket, Broadband Genie (through its sister site broadband.co.uk) and BroadbandDeals.co.uk. Ofcom's scheme is voluntary, so a site that is not on the list has simply not sat the independent audit. It does not mean that site is untrustworthy. Every mainstream comparison site, including this one, earns commission when you switch. The fastest way to see what you can actually get is to check your own postcode.

Which broadband comparison sites are Ofcom accredited?
Four services are accredited for home broadband as of Ofcom's register update on 17 July 2026: Broadbandchoices, MoneySuperMarket, Broadband Genie (listed on the register through its sister site broadband.co.uk) and BroadbandDeals.co.uk. The register lists seven accredited services in total. The other three, CompareDial, Green Smartphones and SIM Only Finder, are accredited for mobile comparison only, not home broadband.

Two things matter when reading that list. First, the scheme is voluntary. A site that does not appear has chosen not to sit or renew the independent audit, which is a commercial decision, not a verdict on its trustworthiness. Second, some of the UK's biggest switching brands, including Uswitch, Compare the Market, Confused.com and Go.Compare, are not on the current broadband register. Plenty of people find that surprising, which is exactly why we built this page.

Sites are listed alphabetically, not ranked. Nobody pays to be included, nobody can pay to be removed, and we show no logos. Ofcom status is taken verbatim from the register linked above. Ownership is verified against Companies House records and company statements. Where we could not verify a detail from a primary source, the cell says so rather than guessing. This page includes us, on the same terms as everyone else.

Who owns the UK's broadband comparison sites?
Ownership is more concentrated than most people realise. Four parent companies sit behind six of the best known brands, and two of the four Ofcom accredited broadband services share a single parent group with each other's stablemates. The rest of the market is independently owned, including us.
The consolidation happened quickly. Moneysupermarket Group acquired Decision Technologies, the owner of Broadbandchoices, in 2018. Future plc bought Go.Compare in 2020. In 2021, RVU completed its acquisition of Confused.com and Genie Ventures acquired broadband.co.uk, bringing it alongside Broadband Genie. Some names from the early years, such as Simplify Digital, which was acquired by Dixons Carphone in 2016, no longer operate as consumer comparison sites at all. None of this makes any site better or worse. It is simply information the CMA's 2017 study of digital comparison tools said consumers deserve to see, and almost never do.
Are broadband comparison sites impartial?
Comparison sites are commercial businesses. They are paid a commission by providers when you switch, which is how they can be free for you to use. That does not make them biased, but it does mean impartiality is something you check rather than assume. Three questions do most of the work: does the site cover a wide range of providers, is it transparent about how results are ordered and how it earns, and is it independent of the providers it lists? Ofcom's accreditation audit exists to test exactly these things, and the CMA's 2017 market study named transparency about coverage, business models and ranking as the biggest trust gaps in the sector. Any site that answers those questions plainly, accredited or not, is treating you properly.
Do comparison sites show all providers?
No. No single comparison site lists every UK broadband provider. Coverage varies from site to site, and many smaller full fibre networks, the altnets building in towns and cities across the country, do not appear on the biggest brands at all. That is not a scandal, it is a commercial reality: sites list the providers they hold agreements with. But it does mean the single most useful habit is checking your postcode on more than one site before you decide. Availability is decided by the cables on your street, not by any comparison table.

How do broadband comparison sites make money?
Almost every site in this directory works the same way. You compare deals for free, you sign up with a provider, and the provider pays the comparison site a commission for the introduction. You do not pay more for going through a comparison site, and the commission does not come out of your pocket. The honest questions are whether commission influences what you are shown and how prominently a site discloses it.

Are prices cheaper through a comparison site than going direct?
Usually the price is identical whichever route you take. Providers generally advertise the same headline deals on their own sites and through comparison services, although comparison sites do sometimes carry exclusive vouchers, gift cards or incentives that sweeten an otherwise identical package. The genuine saving is not the channel, it is the act of switching itself, particularly if your contract has ended. Ofcom research published in February 2026 found 28% of broadband customers were out of contract, and out of contract prices are consistently higher than the deals available to switchers and new customers.

What does Ofcom accreditation actually mean?
Ofcom has run a voluntary accreditation scheme for price comparison services since 2006, with the current criteria in force since 30 April 2021. To earn and keep the badge, a comparison tool is checked by an independent auditor against five standards, and accredited services may display an approved by Ofcom logo. Applicants also have to disclose how their business works, including whether they take commission and whether a provider owns them, which is why the register is such a useful shortcut for consumers.

How many people actually switch broadband?
More than 2 million customers used the One Touch Switch process to change broadband or landline provider between September 2024 and the end of 2025, according to Ofcom. The same research found 18% of households switched internet provider in the past year, up from 14% in 2023.
What is the best broadband comparison site in the UK?
No regulator ranks comparison sites, so any best claim is marketing. Ofcom instead accredits services that pass an independent audit, and four currently qualify for home broadband: Broadbandchoices, MoneySuperMarket, Broadband Genie through broadband.co.uk, and BroadbandDeals.co.uk. Is Broadband Genie Ofcom accredited?
Yes. Broadband Genie appears on Ofcom's register of accredited comparison tools, listed alongside its sister site broadband.co.uk, and both are owned by Genie Ventures. The accreditation covers broadband, landline and pay TV comparison. Broadband.co.uk first gained its accreditation in 2018.
